VISIT to LEICESTER £44pp approximately - 28 places available
Tuesday 18 June 2019

Bosworth Field: We will have a guided talk and walk over the battle field to the sun dial, where on Monday 22nd August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth English history changed forever as 118 years of Tudor rule began.

Richard III Visitors Centre: Learn the truth about the much debated story of the king’s life and times in a medieval England racked by decades of fighting in the Wars of the Roses. You will be able to discover the story behind Richard’s rise to power as the last king from the great house of Plantagenet and the reforms he made during his short reign. Find out more about the Battle of Bosworth and how betrayal led to the King being cut down in the thick of battle while defending his crown and his subsequent return to Leicester. Unearths the astonishing story of the research, archaeology, science and painstaking analysis that led to the discovery and identification of the long-lost remains of the King.

Leicester Cathedral: Discover the beauty of Leicester Cathedral and the last resting place of Richard III last king of England to die in battle. Started by the around 900 years ago. It was rebuilt and enlarged between the 13th and 15th centuries and became the ‘Civic Church’, with strong links with the merchants and guilds. Just over 100 years ago the Victorian Architect, Raphael Brandon, magnificently restored and in places, rebuilt the church, including the addition of a 220ft spire. We will have a guided tour of the Cathedral.

There is some rough ground walking during this visit.
